HMI Development Using Unreal Engine

The importance of developing IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems using the real-time solution Unreal Engine 5 is growing year by year. Today, HMI systems powered by Unreal Engine have already been adopted in more than 35 production vehicle models. This session will introduce what Unreal Engine is, outline the HMI development process from a developer’s perspective, and discuss the advantages and challenges of using Unreal Engine in automotive interface development.

Shun Sasaki

Shun Sasaki began his career in 2005 as a game engineer using Unreal Engine. In 2013, he founded historia Inc., a studio specializing in Unreal Engine development, and has since gained over 15 years of experience with the engine. He has produced and directed numerous games and VR projects, and led over 200 non-game projects—including automotive, architecture, and research fields—as a project leader, technical director, and creative director. Historia operates both game and non-game divisions, handling HMI development, visualization tools, simulation environments, and promotional content. Major Clients: Sony, Subaru, Nissan, DENSO, Yamaha, Kengo Kuma and Associates, JAXA, TOPPAN, NHK. Notable Titles: Faaast Penguin, LIVE A LIVE, Caligula 2, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor.
