Global Expansion of IoT Security Labeling Schemes

The JC-STAR (Security Requirements Conformance Assessment and Labeling Scheme), with IPA (Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan) as the Scheme Owner, launched its application process for star 1 (Level 1) in March 2025. This IoT device (product) labeling scheme started a step ahead of the United States and Europe, and the number of products acquiring the label continues to increase steadily. This presentation will explain the current status of JC-STAR, which has now entered full-scale operation, and will also introduce the overview and future outlook of IoT device labeling and certification schemes in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom, where preparations for implementation are underway. Furthermore, based on the full operation of the JC-STAR scheme, we will report on the status of studies in the smart home sector, which have been jointly promoted by CCDS and JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association).
