What kind of security should IoT devices and services protect?
<Abstract>
Cloud-based services using IoT are expanding, and the DDOS attack by MIRAI in September 2016 is still fresh in our minds; it was also the incident that made the threat of botnet attacks on IoT devices widely recognized. Since then, Japan and other countries have made progress in formulating security guidelines and examining requirements for IoT devices. This seminar will provide an overview of global trends, especially the U.S. documents on security for IoT devices (NIST 8259 series) and the draft standards for the labeling program for IoT devices issued in response to the Presidential Directive on cyber security (14028 issued on May 21, 2021). In addition to outlining the draft standards, this presentation will explain the history of the CCDS's consideration of IoT security requirements, their characteristics, and the content of the requirements.
