Experiential Human Centered Design (HCD): HCD Knowledge and Mindset for Everyone

In commoditized markets, experiential approach has been focused as a powerful marketing strategy. HCD is a methodology for the experiential approach and has knowledge and methods of finding experiential vales, specifying requirements, designing, and evaluating the design. HCD skills and mindset are critical for the successful implementation in applied industrial fields. Organizational human resource management making use of HCD engineers are also required. I will explain HCD and the experiential approach, HCD education and training in schools and companies, and the growing HCD professional community.

After completion of the doctorial coursework for the Psychology in Keio University, I started up an HCD based business unit in NTT-AT corporation in 1994 and had worked as a research consultant for nine years. I obtained a doctorate in Education, Hiroshima University in 2003. Since 2003 to 2018 I had been a professor of Psychology Department in Tokiwa University. My research domains were service development in the information communication field and the organizational learning for new HCD practices. I am now the chairperson of the board of Human Centered Society Co-Creation Organization.
