The Situation Surrounding Generative AI and Future Policy Outlook
Generative AI is attracting attention from around the world, and competition in its development is intensifying internationally. Under such circumstances, it is necessary for the public and private sectors to cooperate with a sense of urgency to promote the use of generative AI in Japan and to strengthen development capabilities. On the other hand, as the development and utilization of generative AI advances, various risks have been pointed out, including the spread of false and erroneous information and the increasing sophistication of crimes committed using generative AI. Therefore, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has been promoting policies not only from the viewpoint of “promotion of innovation” but also from the viewpoint of “discipline” with regard to AI, which brings both benefits and risks.
