Introduction to Promoting Organized Open Source in the Era of SDV

Recently, "SDV (Software Defined Vehicle)" has been gaining attention. The focus of vehicles is shifting from hardware to software, but it is not practical for companies to develop all the software in-house. As a result, OSS (Open Source Software) has become an essential part of this transition. OSS offers the advantage of utilizing the latest technologies for free, but it also requires compliance with vulnerability management and licensing regulations. Particularly, ensuring the transparency of software distributed within the supply chain is becoming increasingly important, and SBOM (Software Bill of Materials) is gaining attention as a tool for this purpose. In this session, we will introduce organized activities that promote SBOM management and contributions to OSS, including topics related to OSPO (Open Source Program Office).

TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION

Project Manager, Open Source Program Group, Advanced R&D and Engineering Company

Kotaro Washimori

I work at Toyota Motor Corporation in the Information and Communication Planning Div., Information Systems Group. I serve as Group Manager and also hold Project Manager in the Open Source Program Office (OSPO) under Advanced R&D and Engineering Company, which was established in January this year. For many years, I have been involved in the development and operation of mission-critical systems, such as those that collect vehicle design information necessary for obtaining certifications from authorities like MLIT. In 2022, I transferred to work on advanced technology infrastructure development and research in the cloud for connected cars on the Out-Car side. Since around 2021, I have actively participated in OSS activities led by volunteers within the company and took part in the establishment of the OSPO in January 2024.
