How to obtain a patent using a general-purpose generative AI

According to the status of patent applications for AI-related inventions published by the Japan Patent Office in 2023, there has been a growing trend in applications related to transformers, a key technology for generative AI, since 2020. As generative AI continues to spread rapidly, it is expected that the number of patent applications related to generative AI will also increase. We often receive inquiries such as, "Isn't it difficult to obtain a patent for generative AI?" However, this is not necessarily the case. Surprisingly, even technologies that use general-purpose generative AI, like ChatGPT, can be patented with a bit of ingenuity. In this seminar, I will explain how to obtain a patent related to a general-purpose generative AI by introducing examples and explaining what that "bit of ingenuity" entails.
